From Odunlade Adekola to Mercy Aigbe: Here's Who's Playing Who in The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives
As I walk through the crowded streets of Ibadan, the vibrant atmosphere is evidence of the city's energetic pulse.

As I walk through the crowded streets of Ibadan, the vibrant atmosphere is evidence of the city's energetic pulse. But beneath the surface, I imagine, lies a world of secrets and power struggles, much like the one Lola Shoneyin's novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, so vividly portrays. And now, with EbonyLife Films' 2026 adaptation hitting cinemas this December, fans of the book are eager to see their favorite characters brought to life on the big screen.
At the heart of the story lies Baba Segi, a wealthy, unlettered patriarch played by the talented Odunlade Adekola. His character is a masterclass in contradictions, proud, loud, and commanding, yet vulnerable beneath the surface. Iyabo Ojo brings depth and nuance to Iya Segi, the first wife and undisputed strategist, who commands authority while hiding her own old wounds. Meanwhile, Mercy Aigbe shines as Iya Tope, the peacemaker of the compound, whose quiet strength and observant nature make her a compelling presence.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the women of the compound are not just passive observers, but active players in the delicate balance of power. Bimbo Ademoye brings a sense of cunning and desperation to Iya Femi, the ambitious third wife, who stops at nothing to secure her position. In contrast, Omowunmi Dada plays Bolanle, the university-educated outsider, whose entry into the family sets off a chain of events that threatens to upend the entire family legacy.
The supporting cast is a veritable who's who of Nollywood talent, each bringing their own unique energy to the story. Bimbo Manuel adds a sense of gravitas to Teacher, Baba Segi's trusted confidant, while Nkechi Blessing shines as Mrs Bakare, the community's fiercely protective mother figure. Meanwhile, Bisola Aiyeola brings a sense of warmth and humor to Yemisi, the local matchmaker who always has an ear to the ground.
As the story expands beyond the compound, we meet a cast of characters who add depth and complexity to the narrative. Olarotimi Fakunle brings a sense of quiet intensity to Taju, the silent observer who knows the home's real mechanics. Meanwhile, Constance Olatunde and Maleek of Ikorodu Bois shine as Segi and Akin, the family's eldest daughter and dutiful son, respectively.
The medical professionals in the story play a crucial role in catalyzing the family's secrets, and Daniel Etim Effiong and Uzor Arukwe bring a sense of gravitas to Dr Idibia and Dr Ade, respectively. Meanwhile, Tina Mba and Blessing Nze deliver standout performances as the ruthless nurse and the messenger of truth, respectively.
As I reflect on the cast of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, I am struck by the depth and nuance of the characters. With such a talented lineup, I have no doubt that this adaptation will be a wild ride that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With its complex characters, witty dialogue, and exploration of themes such as power, identity, and community, this film is sure to leave a lasting impact on viewers.
