GTA 6 won't run at 60fps even on PS5 Pro say experts despite rumours
The Uncertainty of GTA 6's Frame Rate Gaming, few titles are as anticipated as Grand Theft Auto VI.

Gaming, few titles are as anticipated as Grand Theft Auto VI. The latest installment in the beloved series has been shrouded in mystery, with fans eagerly awaiting any hint of its release date, gameplay mechanics, or graphics capabilities. Recently, Digital Foundry weighed in on the latter, casting doubt on the game's ability to run at 60 frames per second (fps) even on the powerful PlayStation 5 Pro console.
Digital Foundry, a renowned gaming analysis website, has been scrutinizing the game's trailers and screenshots, marveling at the incredibly realistic graphics. The use of ray tracing, in particular, has been praised for its ability to create lifelike environments. However, this high level of graphical fidelity comes with a cost. As the website explains, the game's massive and dense map, combined with its demanding graphics, suggests that it will be too resource-intensive to run at 60fps.
The PlayStation 5 Pro, an upgraded version of the original console, boasts a more powerful CPU (central processing unit) than its predecessor. However, according to Digital Foundry, this upgrade is not as significant as one might expect. As a result, the console's ability to handle demanding games like GTA 6 is limited. In fact, Digital Foundry suggests that the PlayStation 5 Pro's CPU is not substantial enough to provide a significant boost to performance.
If the PlayStation 5 Pro were capable of running GTA 6 at 60fps, it's likely that Sony would have mentioned it in the PlayStation Blog post that touts the game's compatibility with the console. However, that post focuses on more superficial aspects of the game, such as the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and fast loading times. The silence on the game's performance and graphics is telling, and Digital Foundry's conclusion that GTA 6 will likely run at 40fps at best seems like a plausible one.
Rockstar Games has a reputation for prioritizing high-fidelity graphics over frame rate. The initial releases of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, were both optimized for 30fps. However, that doesn't mean that the company is opposed to 60fps entirely. In fact, GTA 5 did receive a 60fps update when it was ported to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The question remains, however, whether GTA 6 will follow suit.
Despite Digital Foundry's skepticism, rumors persist that GTA 6 will feature a 60fps mode at launch. One listing from Brazilian retailer Kabum, for instance, suggests that the game may offer a 60fps option. However, without concrete evidence, it's difficult to say whether this is more than just speculation.
As a gaming enthusiast, I'm excited to see how GTA 6 will shape up.
