Egyptian startup Fincart raises $2.8 million to expand AI commerce platform

In a quiet Cairo office, Mostafa Masry and Nihal Ali sat down with local merchants, listening intently as they shared their struggles with managing shipping, customer support, marketing, and payments. These conversations were the spark that ignited Fincart, an Egyptian startup that would go on to revolutionize the e-commerce landscape in Africa and the Middle East. Founded in 2023, Fincart began by helping online merchants manage last-mile deliveries and reconcile cash-on-delivery payments. However, the company soon realized that its true potential lay in creating a comprehensive merchant operating system that combined logistics management, embedded financing, and AI-powered customer engagement.
Fincart's pivot into an AI-powered operating system was driven by the realization that merchants were losing valuable business data because of the fragmentation of software solutions. To address this issue, the company consolidated various functions into a single platform, allowing merchants to manage their businesses more efficiently. This strategic shift has paid off, with Fincart now connecting merchants to over 40 shipping providers and offering short-term cash advances. The platform's AI-powered customer engagement feature enables merchants to automate operations, sell more, deliver faster, and manage their customers without the friction of stitching together multiple systems.
Fincart's growth has been remarkable, with the startup raising a $2.8 million seed round to expand its operations across Africa and the Middle East. Launch Africa, a pan-African venture capital fund, and Antler MENAP, an early-stage fund focused on the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan regions, co-led the funding round. Additional investors, including Yango Ventures, Five35 Ventures, Bluestream Capital, Hi2 Global, and Kalahari Venture Labs, also participated in the round. According to Mostafa Masry, Fincart's co-founder and chief executive officer, the funding will enable the company to scale its commercial and tech teams, invest in product development, and forge new commercial partnerships to strengthen its position in the e-commerce market.
Egypt's e-commerce market is projected to grow to $20.15 billion by 2031, creating opportunities for startups like Fincart to build software and financial infrastructure for merchants. With its AI-powered operating system, Fincart is poised to capitalize on this growth, deepening its partnerships, enhancing its platform, expanding its infrastructure, and accelerating its growth across the region. As Nihal Ali, Fincart's co-founder, notes, "Everything we build starts with sitting down with merchants and understanding where they're losing time, money, or customers." This customer-centric approach has been instrumental in Fincart's success, and it will be crucial in the company's continued expansion across Africa and the Middle East.
Fincart's $2.8 million seed round is a significant milestone for the startup, marking its entry into the African and Middle Eastern e-commerce landscape. With its AI-powered operating system and commitment to customer-centricity, Fincart is well-positioned to revolutionize the way merchants operate in the region. As the e-commerce market continues to grow, Fincart will be at the forefront of innovation, using technology to simplify business operations and drive growth for merchants.
As I reflect on Fincart's journey, I am struck by the company's ability to pivot and adapt to the needs of its customers. In an industry where fragmentation and complexity can be overwhelming, Fincart's AI-powered operating system offers a beacon of hope for merchants looking to streamline their operations and drive growth. With its commitment to innovation and customer-centricity, Fincart is poised to make a lasting impact on the African and Middle Eastern e-commerce landscape.
