In a small studio nestled in the heart of London, a world was born, a world of vibrant characters, eclectic music, and endless possibility. This was the Kong Studios universe, the brainchild of Damon Albarn and his collaborators, the band Gorillaz. For 25 years, Gorillaz have been creating this fantastical realm, inviting fans to peek behind the curtain and experience the unseen world of the band. Now, that world is coming to New York.
Gorillaz have announced that their 'House Of Kong' exhibition is heading to New York for a limited run. The immersive experience, which first launched in London last year, invites fans to explore 25 years of Gorillaz history, artwork, music, characters, and mythology. The hour-long experience takes fans through the story of the band and their Kong Studios universe, offering a unique glimpse into the creative process of one of the most innovative and beloved bands of the past quarter century.
Billed as a chance to "peek behind the curtain into the unseen world of Gorillaz", the exhibition promises to be an unforgettable experience. Fans will be able to see rare and exclusive artwork, hear music from across Gorillaz' discography, and learn about the band's history and mythology. It's a chance to delve deep into the world of Kong Studios, to explore the characters and stories that have captivated fans for decades.
Tickets for the New York run of 'House Of Kong' go on general sale at 10am local time on Tuesday (June 30), with prices starting from $50. Fans who purchased a Kong Card by June 25 will receive presale access from 10am on Monday (June 29). The exhibition will open at the Agger Fish Building in Brooklyn Navy Yard on September 1 and run until September 28.
The New York run follows last year's original 'House Of Kong' exhibition at London's Copper Box Arena, which launched as part of Gorillaz' 25th anniversary celebrations. The launch was accompanied by a series of live shows at the same venue, where Damon Albarn and co. Performed the band's self-titled debut, 'Demon Days', and 'Plastic Beach' in full, before debuting new material at a phone-free "mystery show". That material later became 'The Mountain', the band's ninth studio album, which was released earlier this year through their own KONG label.
The exhibition is evidence of the creativity and innovation of Gorillaz, a band that has always pushed the boundaries of what is possible in music and art. With their unique blend of electronic beats, psychedelic rock, and hip-hop, Gorillaz have created a world that is both fantastical and real, a world that still draws fans around the globe.
