Penélope Cruz Talks Hopping on Stage With Bad Bunny in Puerto Rico and Bono's Outrageous Birthday Gift on 'Hot Ones'

Penélope Cruz, one of Hollywood's most beloved actors, sat nervously in front of the infamous Hot Ones show, the array of mouth-scorching sauces in front of her a daunting prospect. "I'm very nervous," she told host Sean Evans, "I'm doing this because I love your show, but I love laughing at other people when they do it." Her words would prove prophetic, as she would soon find herself cursing her decision to participate in the challenge.
As Cruz took on the hot sauce gauntlet, she recalled a recent adventure with her close friend, Salma Hayek. Despite being terrified of clowns, the pair had both dressed as them for Halloween last year. They had planned a fun night with their friends, but things took a turn for the worse when they found themselves on a flight with 10 other people dressed as clowns. It was not the bonding experience they had hoped for. "I don't like clowns. They are scary no matter what," Cruz said, shaking her head. "But imagine being on a plane full of people and 10 of us were dressed like clowns." The flight attendants were forced to hide in the bathroom as the plane experienced a de-pressurization of the cabin. Cruz and Hayek were lucky to have landed safely, but they were late for their next shoot. "And of course, we were late on set, but alive," Cruz laughed.
As the Scoville level began to rise, Cruz talked about her children and their love of music. Her teenage son and daughter had introduced her to the music of Bad Bunny, and despite her initial reservations, she had found herself listening to his songs non-stop. "We were in the car, and the kids introduced me to his music," she said. "So I was like, these lyrics are not for you." However, she had eventually given in to their love of the music, and they had all gone to see Bad Bunny in concert in Puerto Rico. "We were special guests in the onstage VIP casita set," Cruz said, beaming with pride.
As Cruz continued to take on the hot sauce gauntlet, she began to crumble. She was begging for ice cream and cursing her decision to participate in the show. However, despite the pain, she was having a good time. "I thought people lie about how spicy things get on the show," she said, confidently asking Evans if she could get some kind of award for sprinting through his challenge. It was clear that Cruz was a trooper, taking on the heat with a sense of humor and determination.
As I watched Cruz take on the hot sauce gauntlet, I couldn't help but be impressed by her spirit. Despite the pain and discomfort, she was laughing and joking with Evans, showing that she was a true professional. Her love of her children and her friend Salma Hayek shone through in her stories, and it was clear that she was a devoted mother and friend. As for her experience on Hot Ones, Cruz said it was a "crazy bonding experience" that she would never forget.
