Pixies announce 'Bossanova' and 'Trompe le Monde' reissues with unreleased tracks

You know I've been waiting for this one for ages - Pixies are reissuing not one but two of their iconic albums, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde, with some juicy unreleased tracks thrown in for good measure. This move is all part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, and I must say, it's a great way to mark four decades of making music.

The reissues are a result of Pixies' lead vocalist, Black Francis, and bassist Kim Deal's 1990 efforts to craft new songs. Four new tracks will be unleashed on the world, including 'Go Man Go', which was written by Francis and Deal, and recorded during the sessions for both Bossanova and The Breeders' Last Splash. 'Brackish Boy' was later included on Francis's eponymous debut solo album, and 'Punk Loop' emerged from the 1991 Trompe Le Monde sessions. Oh, and did I mention there's also an alternate version of 'Dig For Fire' recorded by Steve Albini in late 1987 during the sessions for Surfer Rosa? Talk about a treasure trove of unreleased goodness!

These reissues aren't just about slapping new tracks onto the original albums, though - Pixies have also gone back to the drawing board to create new Dolby Atmos mixes and high-resolution masters. Kevin Vanbergen, the mastermind behind the remastering process, has been working his magic through the band's tape archive to create something truly special. The reissues will be available on CD, digital, and standard black vinyl formats, as well as a limited-edition oxblood vinyl package for Bossanova, complete with a 16-page, 10” replica of the original UK booklet. For Trompe Le Monde, there's a sky blue vinyl edition in the works, with a 7” single containing the bonus tracks. Talk about a treat for fans!

But reissues aren't the only thing Pixies have been up to - the band is currently on a UK and European tour, celebrating their 40th anniversary in style. They've got a string of dates lined up, including a huge outdoor gig at On The Mount at Wasing later this month and festival appearances at Bearded Theory, NOS Alive, and Mad Cool. And if you thought that was all, they've also got a new album to talk about - their ninth studio album, The Night The Zombies Came, released in 2024. With all this energy and excitement in the air, I'm predicting a Pixies renaissance of sorts. Get ready to rock, folks!

These reissues are more than just a nod to Pixies' past - they're evidence of the band's commitment to their craft and their willingness to push the boundaries of what's possible. As for me, I'm just excited to dive back into the world of Pixies and experience their music in a whole new way. Who's with me?
