For Veronica, the protagonist of the upcoming Resident Evil game, the Nintendo Switch 2 has become the most appealing console on the market. Not because it's the most powerful, but because it's the most affordable. The console's price point, a mere £396, has become a beacon of hope in an industry where gaming has never felt so out of reach. As Sony and Microsoft continue to make questionable decisions, Nintendo has inadvertently become the industry's best-kept secret.

The circumstances surrounding some of the recent decisions from Sony and Microsoft can be blamed on external factors, but between the memory shortages and subsequent price hikes, console gaming has never felt so out of reach. Xbox is stuck between a rock and a hard place with Project Helix, as it prepares to shutter studios, cancel games, and terminate any goodwill it may have left. Meanwhile, Sony is ceasing physical discs from 2028, because bad PR has clearly become a competitive sport. The PlayStation 6 and Project Helix are estimated to cost £1,000 or more, making them unappealing to even the most die-hard fans.

On price alone, the Nintendo Switch 2 is easily the most appealing. The base console costs £396, and even with the upcoming price increase in September, it won't come close to the £520 price for the PlayStation 5 digital edition. The digital Xbox Series X, meanwhile, costs £450 in the UK, but it's set to increase from August by around £100. It's worth remembering that the Nintendo Switch 2 launched last year, so while it isn't as powerful as the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X (which both released in 2020), it's a better futureproof investment in terms of first-party support.

Even as a third-party machine, the Switch 2 is more competitive than expected. We've already seen how the likes of Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Star Wars Outlaws, and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle all run surprisingly well on the system. There are some inevitable graphical and frame rate compromises, but the gap between Nintendo's console and its more powerful siblings is far slimmer than before. For physical collectors, the Switch 2 has inadvertently become the most promising option too, despite the prevalence of Game-Key cards.

It's clear that Nintendo's strategy is working, at least for now. The Switch 2's affordability and competitive edge have made it the most appealing console on the market. But as the industry continues to shift and adapt, it's hard to say how long this will last.## In a Year, We'll Be Talking About the Switch 3

By this time next year, we'll be discussing the Nintendo Switch 3, and the Switch 2 will be relegated to the annals of history. But for now, it's the console that everyone wants to own. With its affordable price point and competitive edge, it's the perfect console for anyone looking to join the gaming world without breaking the bank. So, if you're in the market for a new console, look no further than the Nintendo Switch 2, it's the smart choice.
