Rivals is the best it's ever been, but I'm disappointed by one decision
A Heart-Shattering Episode As I sat through the latest episode of Rivals, I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine.

As I sat through the latest episode of Rivals, I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine. The reaction on social media was instantaneous, with fans pouring in to hail it as a masterpiece. I couldn't agree more. Claire Rushbrook's performance as Monica, the long-suffering and gracious wife of David Tennant's Lord Tony Baddingham, was heartbreakingly stunning. The way she conveyed Monica's emotions, from shock to despair, was nothing short of remarkable.
The sixth episode of season two saw Monica finally confront Tony over his devious ways, after discovering that he's been sleeping with Maud O'Hara (Victoria Smurfit). This revelation was the final nail in the coffin of Monica's trust in Tony. As she grappled with the fact that her friend, Maud, had been used as a pawn in Tony's game of revenge against his nemesis, Declan (Aidan Turner), I couldn't help but feel a sense of disheartenment. Monica's world had been turned upside down, and she was left to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart.
The complexity of the plot was nothing short of staggering. Tony's years of infidelity had been no secret, but the fact that he had used Maud as a means to an end, to get revenge on Declan, was a betrayal that cut even deeper. Monica had suggested that Tony hire Maud to play the lead in the TV show, Four Men Went To Mow, after watching her perform in a play in London. Little did she know that Tony would use Maud for his own nefarious purposes, and that their affair would be the final straw that broke Monica's back.
As Monica arrived at the home of Lizzie Vereker (Katherine Parkinson), clearly out of sorts after wading through the storm, I couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy for her. Her conversation with Lizzie, questioning whether she would end her marriage to James (Oliver Chris) to be with her lover, Freddie (Danny Dyer), was a poignant moment in the episode. Monica's eyes brimmed with sadness as she asked, "Why do we stay, though?" It was a question that echoed in my mind long after the episode ended.
- Episode 6 of Season 2 of Rivals aired on Friday morning.
- Claire Rushbrook received praise for her performance as Monica.
- David Tennant played the role of Lord Tony Baddingham.
- Victoria Smurfit played the role of Maud O'Hara.
- Aidan Turner played the role of Declan.
As a writer, I couldn't help but feel that the show's creators had done an excellent job in crafting a story that was both engaging and emotionally resonant. However, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment at the way the plot unfolded. The decision to have Monica's fate shattered our hopes was a bold one, but it left me feeling disheartened. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that Rivals will continue to captivate audiences with its intricate plot and complex characters., what's next for Monica and Tony?---
As I reflect on the episode, I'm left wondering what the future holds for Monica. Will she find a way to heal and move on from the betrayal, or will she continue to struggle with the weight of her husband's infidelity? The show has a knack for keeping us on the edge of our seats, and I have no doubt that the next episode will be just as captivating.
